Google’s answer to ChatGPT, Google Bard, is out

arsTECHNICA, 03/21/23. You can now get on the waitlist for Bard, Google’s generative AI chatbot. Bard is aimed at boosting productivity, accelerating ideas, and fueling curiosity. It’s also covered in warnings and can gets stuff wrong. 

Bard is only available in English and is limited in its ability to hold context. Unlike ChatGPT, Bard does not seem to be integrated with Google Search. Some results have a “Google it” button to launch Google Search. READ MORE

Microsoft Bing now uses OpenAI’s DALL-E A.I. to turn text into images

CNBC, 03/21/23. Microsoft’s Bing and Edge now have a generative image creation feature called Bing Image Creator. It uses OpenAI’s DALL-E to create images from text entered by users.

Image Created will first be available in preview mode in Bing’s creative mode. Safety measures are included to limit the generation of harmful or unsafe images. A modified Bing icon is added to the images to highlight their creation by AI. READ MORE

Adobe: Our New Generative AI Will Help Creative Pros, Not Hurt Them

CNET, 03/21/23. Generative AI is bringing new creative possibilities to digital art and design. Adobe’s new Firefly collection of generative AI tools can convert text prompts into imagery with hundreds of styles. 

Some creative professionals may see this as an incursion into their creative domain. Adobe sees AI as a tool to amplify human achievement rather than to replace designers.

TikTok bans deepfakes of nonpublic figures and fake endorsements in rule refresh 

The Verge, 03/21/23. TikTok refreshed its content moderation policies to include new restrictions on AI deepfakes. All realistic AI-generated content now must be clearly labeled. Deepfakes of nonpublic figures and fake endorsements are banned. 

The policy changes come as political pressure on TikTok’s parent company ByteDance grows. Western governments are concerned over the app’s collection of private data and its potential to sway public opinion. TikTok does not address these threats directly but says it aims to offer more transparency about its rules.

The company is publishing a list of eight “Community Principles” include “prevent harm” and “enable free expression.” READ MORE

NVIDIA Brings Generative AI to World’s Enterprises With Cloud Services for Creating Large Language and Visual Models

NVIDIA, 03/21/23. NVIDIA has introduced cloud services that allow businesses to build their own Large Language Models and Generative AI models. The services enable companies to train models using their own data for tasks including chatbots, customer support, content creation, and digital simulation. 

The NVIDIA NeMo language service and the NVIDIA Picasso image, video, and 3D service offer APIs to access models of varying sizes. Support from NVIDIA experts is available to help enterprises fine-tune models for their specific use cases. 

Leading visual content companies, including Adobe, Getty Images, and Shutterstock, are partnering with NVIDIA to build custom models. READ MORE
